It’s always nice to have Ilse DeLange on stage. A great voice, the right happy looks and character and beautiful uplifting performances. I was just browsing through my photo archives of the previous years, and I stumbled upon my images from the Liberation Festival, “Bevrijdingsfestival” of last year, 2011. While I was looking at the statistics I saw there was one photo which had the most views: this one of Ilse DeLange.
I decided to do a Reverse Image Search on Google and I discovered this photo on her Wikipedia article too. Normally my written permission is required to use images, but in this case I felt honored. I re-claimed my copyrights, added back my name and after some time, requests to use the picture started entering my mailbox. 🙂
Then I went to my photo RAW archive, reprocessed the RAW file with the new universal (dual illuminant) color profile from my X-Rite ColorChecker and I did some local clarity adjustments. I also decided to flip the image horizontally, to let her look into the future in stead of the past.
Then I decided to publish that photo of Ilse DeLange on Facebook. Well, more than 20 likes in the first minute. So cool! I think it’s because of her smile and the moment I captured: just like she is. Pure, happy and herself.
To capture this photo and to give her blonde hair extra glow, I used two Speedlites on PocketWizards, mounted high on stage, firing from the back. I used my Sekonic light meter to spot measure her skin tone and then I exposed for the skin tone on +1 stop above normal (perfect for caucasian skin).
Ilse DeLange lives in my neighborhood. But when you hear her music, you wouldn’t recognize her as a typical Dutch singer. Her sound is universal and if you don’t know her music, you definitively should check it out.
IIse DeLange I Love You♥
